"Mark Jacobson, professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and director of the Atmosphere/Energy Program at Stanford University, recently conducted a study that ranked alternate energies from best to worst. Ethanol was put to the test against, "Solar-photovoltaic (PV), concentrated solar power (CSP), wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, wave, tidal, nuclear, and coal with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology." After looking at reports of air pollutants from energy types on climate and air quality, and comparing how well each energy type was able to power vehicles, the study showed that Ethanol came in dead last.
It seems that the report found that wind-powered battery electric vehicles as well as wind-powered hydrogen fuel cells were the greenest ways to go. The immediate problem now, is the fact that driving a wind-powered battery electric vehicle is horrendously expensive, let alone impractical. And for its part, Ethanol has already received huge support from the automotive industry and the U.S. government. Finding an appropriately sized role for ethanol, with adequate support for the greener of the new green-tech is easier said than done."

Shameless plug for Audi- the official automotive marque of YHPS."It's a sign of the times. After having rolled out the delectable M1 Hommage concept, one BMW board member says that the Bavarian automaker has no intention of producing a supercar to compete with the likes of the Audi R8. Instead, BMW will focus on green technologies.
The news comes straight from Klaus Draeger, the board member at the helm of the EfficientDymanics initiative. While Audi continues to produce more powerful and more desirable versions of the R8, Mercedes prepares entirely new supercars and Porsche continues to do what Porsche has always done, the company that once hailed itself as the producers of the "Ultimate Driving Machine" is more concerned with hybrids than sportscars." -Autoblog

"Our problem in America gets solved when we aggressively go for domestic exploration. Our problem in America gets solved if we expand our refining capacity, promote nuclear energy and continue our strategy for the advancing of alternative energies as well as conservation," he said.
"One interesting thing about American politics these days is those who are screaming the loudest for increased production from Saudi Arabia are the very same people who are fighting the fiercest against domestic exploration, against the development of nuclear power and against expanding refining capacity."

"Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could directly lead to the harm of some of our staff, Liveleak.com has been left with no other choice but to remove Fitna from our servers. This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else. We would like to thank the thousands of people, from all backgrounds and religions, who gave us their support. They realised LiveLeak.com is a vehicle for many opinions and not just for the support of one. Perhaps there is still hope that this situation may produce a discussion that could benefit and educate all of us as to how we can accept one anothers culture. We stood for what we believe in, the ability to be heard, but in the end the price was too high."Proves the point- I hope this catches on like wildfire this weekend.

"WASHINGTON -- A pair of high-profile former Silicon Valley executives have signed on to help John McCain's presidential campaign, offering a boost to the presumptive Republican nominee's economic credentials and fund-raising abilities.
Meg Whitman, the retirement-bound chief executive of eBay Inc., joined the McCain team Friday as a national co-chairwoman. She made the move after more than a year as an adviser to Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts who ran a tough campaign against Sen. McCain. Ms. Whitman joins Carly Fiorina, the former head of Hewlett-Packard Co., who was named the Republican National Committee's "Victory" chair earlier this month.
He already has the help of longtime supporter John Chambers, CEO of Cisco Systems Inc., as both a fund-raiser and an adviser."
Solid news for the backing of educated and well-paid IT professionals in America, a 12-million-strong voting block of which I am a member, who donate and are politically-active according to CompTIA. I'm proud to patronize services and wares from all three of these companies already.

"Mr. Wilders, 44, is in the news here these days for a 10-to-15-minute film he says he has made depicting the Koran as the inspiration for terrorist attacks and other violence. Having failed to persuade a single Dutch television network to broadcast the film in its entirety, he said he planned to release it on the Internet by the end of this month."Showwww iiiiiit!!! Hype during the last year of this thing is about to drive me over the edge! If it's credible and any good, I really hope Wilders releases this soon in an easily-distributed form so it can spread as far and wide as quickly as possible. I will watch this in the YHPS control room with a Heineken mini-keg to celebrate when it debuts.
UPDATE2: Network Solutions also hosts the English version site for Hezbollah. Boycott indeed. Found that off Digg, which had a great post from someone else regarding Fitna: "And you retards thought Scientology was a problem." Yep- this is why this film needs to come out March 31."The site formerly showed the film's title, "Fitna" ("Coming Soon"), and an image of a gilded Koran. Now it shows a note that the U.S. company, Network Solutions, is investigating whether the site violates its terms of service.
"Network Solutions has received a number of complaints regarding this site that are under investigation," the note said. The company could not immediately be reached for comment. Its terms of service contain a sweeping prohibition against objectionable material of any kind or nature."

"Americans traveling to China for the Olympic Games in August can expect their hotel rooms there to be monitored, the State Department warned on its website. "All visitors should be aware that they have no reasonable expectation of privacy in public or private locations," according to the State Department site. "All hotel rooms and offices are considered to be subject to on-site or remote technical monitoring at all times. Hotel rooms, residences and offices may be accessed at any time without the occupant's consent or knowledge," it said. It added that many hotels and apartment buildings may be poorly built, lack emergency exits, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide monitors and basic security like locks, alarms, and personnel."Good point- don't expect any rights to security, privacy or otherwise while travelling in China. It's not our jurisdiction, and of no concern to them how you feel. One has to wonder how well this is going to go over with American tourists once they realize this. Personally, along with our eyes on the Tibeten chaos, I'm hoping for a full-on boycott to the point of cancellation so the free global community can give its vote of no confidence to the idiots at the IOC who chose Beijing for 2008. Sorry, athletes- nothing personal.

"Bain said on Thursday that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) had said it would block the $2.2 billion deal that would also have given Huawei, China's biggest network equipment maker, a minority stake of up to 21.5 percent in 3Com. Several U.S. lawmakers have complained that the deal threatened national security due to Huawei's alleged ties to the Chinese military. 3Com sells security technology and network equipment to government agencies and large businesses.Bain was trying to make it happen even after the security concerns were raised! I can't stand companies that don't consider ethics and security like this. Romney, go slap 'em up.
Huawei had maintained that it is a private company owned by employees, but founder Ren Zhengfei was a former People's Liberation Army soldier. Huawei and 3Com representatives were not immediately available for comment."

"But more than anything, the rise of shared videos alarms the government, to the degree that private service providers can no longer offer MMS — multimedia services — until appropriate filters are developed.
That won’t stop bawdy file sharers like Balthazar, who owns an impressive collection of clips. "Haven’t these idiots ever heard of Bluetooth?" he asks, before offering a Photoshopped video of Ahmadinejad at a circus. Hint: The president is not sitting in the audience."
