WSJ: 'The Path Forward for Honduras' by Roberto Micheletti

aux.link.: The Path Forward for Honduras - WSJ.com

"One of America’s most loyal Latin American allies—Honduras—has been in the midst of a constitutional crisis that threatens its democracy. Sadly, key undisputed facts regarding the crisis have often been ignored by America’s leaders, at least during the earliest days of the crisis.

In recent days, the rhetoric from allies of former President Manuel Zelaya has also dominated media reporting in the U.S. The worst distortion is the repetition of the false statement that Mr. Zelaya was removed from office by the military and for being a “reformer.” The truth is that he was removed by a democratically elected civilian government because the independent judicial and legislative branches of our government found that he had violated our laws and constitution.

Let’s review some fundamental facts that cannot be disputed..."

Buchanan: Socialist America Sinking

aux.link.: Socialist America sinking

"Coming to America to feast on this cornucopia of freebies is the world. One million to 2 million immigrants, legal and illegal, arrive every year. They come with fewer skills and less education than Americans, and consume more tax dollars than they contribute by three to one.

Wise Latina women have more babies north of the border than they do in Mexico and twice as many here as American women.

As almost all immigrants are now Third World people of color, they qualify for ethnic preferences in hiring and promotions and admissions to college over the children of Americans.

All of this would have astounded and appalled the Founding Fathers, who after all, created America – as they declared loud and clear in the Constitution – "for ourselves and our posterity."

China saves, invests and grows at 8 percent. America, awash in debt, has a shrinking economy, a huge trade deficit, a gutted industrial base, an unemployment rate surging toward 10 percent and a money supply that's swollen to double its size in a year. The 20th century may have been the American Century. The 21st shows another pattern.

"The United States is declining as a nation and a world power with mostly sighs and shrugs to mark this seismic event," writes Les Gelb, president emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations, in CFR's Foreign Affairs magazine. "Astonishingly, some people do not appear to realize that the situation is all that serious." "

It Was Legal: Why Everyone Should Back Honduras' Micheletti

aux.link.: Why Honduras Sent Zelaya Away - WSJ.com

"In a perfect world former Honduran President Manuel Zelaya would be in jail in his own country right now, awaiting trial. The Honduran attorney general has charged him with deliberately violating Honduran law and the Supreme Court ordered his arrest in Tegucigalpa on June 28.

But the Honduran military whisked him out of the country, to Costa Rica, when it executed the court's order.

His expulsion has given his supporters ammunition to allege that he was treated unlawfully. Now he is an international hero of the left. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Cuban dictator Raúl Castro, and Venezuela's Hugo Chávez are all insisting that he be restored to power. This demand is baseless. Mr. Zelaya's detention was legal, as was his official removal from office by Congress.

If there is anything debatable about the crisis it is the question of whether the government can defend the expulsion of the president. In fact it had good reasons for that move and they are worth Mrs. Clinton's attention if she is interested in defending democracy."

Leon Panetta Sticks-Up For Staff, Speaks Great Common Sense

aux.link.: Panetta to CIA employees: We told Pelosi the truth - Glenn Thrush: Hill Intrigue - POLITICO.com

"Message from the Director: Turning Down the Volume

There is a long tradition in Washington of making political hay out of our business. It predates my service with this great institution, and it will be around long after I’m gone. But the political debates about interrogation reached a new decibel level yesterday when the CIA was accused of misleading Congress. Let me be clear: It is not our policy or practice to mislead Congress. That is against our laws and our values. As the Agency indicated previously in response to Congressional inquiries, our contemporaneous records from September 2002 indicate that CIA officers briefed truthfully on the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah, describing “the enhanced techniques that had been employed.” Ultimately, it is up to Congress to evaluate all the evidence and reach its own conclusions about what happened.

My advice — indeed, my direction — to you is straightforward: ignore the noise and stay focused on your mission. We have too much work to do to be distracted from our job of protecting this country.

We are an Agency of high integrity, professionalism, and dedication. Our task is to tell it like it is — even if that’s not what people always want to hear. Keep it up. Our national security depends on it."

KRISTOL: Don't Wince. Fight! Dick Cheney, Most Valuable Republican

aux.link.: Don't Wince. Fight!

" "As Cheney Seizes Spotlight, Many Republicans Wince," was the front-page headline in Thursday's Washington Post. Two Republican "strategists" spoke "on the condition of anonymity in order to be candid." Profiles in courage! One of them opined that Cheney is "entirely unhelpful." The other elaborated, "Even if he's right, he's absolutely the wrong messenger.  .  .  .  We want Bush to be a distant memory in the next election."

To have such a juvenile understanding of political dynamics, you'd have to be a prominent "Republican strategist." You might actually have both the Dole and McCain campaigns under your belt. Or perhaps you were one of those who encouraged the Bush White House to assume a fetal position on most issues in its second term and not fight back against slanders or defend their people, because to do so would spotlight the "wrong" issues or people."

The Obama Administration's Economic Lawlessness

aux.link.: George F. Will - The Obama Administration's Economic Lawlessness
"Anyone, said T.S. Eliot, could carve a goose, were it not for the bones. And anyone could govern as boldly as his whims decreed, were it not for the skeletal structure that keeps civil society civil -- the rule of law. The Obama administration is bold. It also is careless regarding constitutional values and is acquiring a tincture of lawlessness."

Gutless: Wanda Sykes' Slander Fails To 'Speak Truth To Power'

aux.link.: Big Hollywood » Blog Archive » Wanda Sykes’ Gutless Performance
"She didn’t utter a single joke about Obama’s out of control spending. Not one joke about his teleprompter. Not one joke about his visit with Chavez, his messages to Iran, his Cinco De Mayo screwup, his mastery of the Austrian language, his “world without nuclear weapons,” his spreading the wealth around, his ownership of the car companies, his tax-cheat employees.

And most of all, not a single joke about Dan Choi, the first gay Arabic linguist fired by Barack Obama under the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. Not a single joke about Obama’s interracially married parents and his refusal to stump for homosexual marriage. Sykes pledged to “get in their face” about gay marriage, but refused to get in the face of the most powerful man on earth about it. Instead, she chose to go after Rush Limbaugh and oxycontin - a choice for which she will surely be praised by the leftist media."

On World Stage, Obama Uses Podium To Express Regret

aux.link.: On World Stage, Obama Uses Podium to Express Regret - FOXNews.com

My turn this term: What an embarassment our President is! Unacceptable. Stand up for us! Be proud of America's accomplishments! The world's sole superpower, greatest supporter of charity, freedom and democracy - which has risen from nothing in less than 250 years - and whose President is seen as the leader of the free world, should not be bowing down and apologizing for any mistakes we've made along the way.

Blah blah blah? You're right- because that's common sense. Most others around the world even accept and understand this with at least some degree of respect. Our own POTUS does not. Other heads of state can't believe his remarks and are laughing on the inside at him, and us for being foolish enough to have elected such a noob. Going forward, it's all about Obama 'repairing our image' and 'remaking America'. We as citizens shudder at the thought. Except the Obamabots still lusting after his image, still too incompetent to realize they've been tricked into bad policies for America by a smooth talker with a teleprompter.

Two Black Women Jailed Over Photo Theft Of Our Dear Leader

aux.link.: Two women jailed over Obama photo Cincinnati Enquirer

You know what? I have a framed photo of the Bushes on one of the bookshelves in my home office. And I didn't steal it. The Bushes signed, sealed and shipped it to me after I donated to their campaign. You know, because I earned it, and I display it as a nice gesture in return because it's something I'm proud of. They're neighbors, afterall. It's about the last thing I'm concerned about being stolen from the fortified YHPS compound in North Dallas.

Something is of the completely opposite spectrum here with these other two over their idol who they would apparently do anything for... I mean, one broke and entered a house for this, and the owner fought her over it. My money is on the thief's intentions for hanging it in a prayer room for socialist reparations.

aux.link.: My Way News - Rep. Frank calls Scalia a 'homophobe' in interview

Let's get something straight real quick. A guy (?) with a name like Barney Frank who lies and helps ruin our country's economy and capitalist baseline at the punishment of all American investors/taxpayers/hard-workers and reward of all crooks/failures/cronies - and who is even further a homosexual with a speech impediment out of a Dr. Seuss book - is the last person on this continent to start calling names or anything else like this here. Especially toward a respected Justice of the Supreme Court. I am starting to truly loathe this immature-on-every-level administration.

And from a definitive standpoint, I highly doubt Justice Scalia is 'scared' of homos like Barney (claims).

Culture Of Corruption: Mayor Refuses To Release 'Stimulus' Plans

aux.link: Daley refuses to release stimulus project list Clout Street - local political coverage

"Mayor Richard Daley said today Chicago has compiled a wish list of "shovel-ready projects" to spend federal economic stimulus funds on should Congress approve a plan.

Unlike hundreds of other cities, however, Daley said Chicago won't make its list public. "Yes, we do, we have our list, we've been talking to people. We did not put that out publicly because once you start putting it out publicly, you know, the newspapers, the media is going to be ripping it apart," Daley said.

"It's very controversial. Yes, we have ready projects from the Board of Education to the City Colleges to the Park District to the CTA and the city of Chicago. Oh yes. Us and New York decided not to do that. We thought we could go directly into the federal bureaucracies and the different departments," the mayor added.

Later, Daley was asked why he wasn't being more transparent. "Read some of your newspapers. Heh heh," he replied."

So Help Us God... WTF Was That?

aux.link.: Obama, Chief Justice Roberts Stumble in Recitation of Presidential Oath

The swearing in began simply enough as Roberts started reciting the oath Obama was to repeat, a few words at a time.

"I, Barack Hussein Obama," began Roberts.

"I, Barack," said Obama, and before he could continue, Roberts said, "do solemnly swear."

Obama: "I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear"

Roberts: "That I will execute the office of president to the United States faithfully..."

Obama: "that I will execute..."

Roberts: "faithfully execute the office of president of the United States..."

Obama: "The office of president of the United States faithfully..."

At that point, Roberts got back on course, leading as Obama followed with "and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

"So help you God?" asked Roberts.

"So help me God."

Global Climate Change Propaganda Failing

aux.link.: Efforts to support global climate-change falls: Poll

PARIS - There is both growing public reluctance to make personal sacrifices and a distinct lack of enthusiasm for the major international efforts now underway to battle climate change, according to findings of a poll of 12,000 citizens in 11 countries, including Canada.

Results of the poll were released this week in advance of the start of a major international conference in Poland where delegates are considering steps toward a new international climate-change treaty to replace the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.

There already are reports emerging that some countries, such as coal-dependent Poland, are pushing for special treatment to avoid making major commitments to slash carbon emissions during a global economic downturn. Less than half of those surveyed, or 47 per cent, said they were prepared to make personal lifestyle changes to reduce carbon emissions, down from 58 per cent last year.

Only 37 per cent said they were willing to spend "extra time" on the effort, an eight-point drop. And only one in five respondents - or 20 per cent - said they'd spend extra money to reduce climate change. That's down from 28 per cent a year ago.

SLAM DUNK: Sarah Palin YHPS-Approved

Damn. McCain has all but locked up the election now with this move- sheer brilliance. The conservative base is jumping, and I am finally stoked. I may even get a bumpersticker. One doesn't really comprehend the virtue in this selection fully until they read her background and see all the required tick-marks they can check off, and then watch the introductory speech she gave in Ohio last Friday which gave me goosebumps.

This 'Hail Mary pass', that some are referring to the pick as, looks to be one that will be catchable with many voters, and attractive enough for most to shut down the socialistic arrogance/mouthy ticket of Obama/Biden. The selection of right(eous)-babe Gov. Sarah Palin was just the thing to finally energize hesitant Republicans and swing voters, as well as a good chunk of change out of my and my wife's bank account to the McCain campaign this evening finally. Appeasement: Bush's Speech Of The Year In Israel

aux.link: Obama says Bush falsely accuses him of appeasement

Excellence- well done, Mr. President. These are some of the defining words that will mark your legacy.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama accused President Bush on Thursday of launching a "false political attack" with a comment about appeasing terrorists and radicals. The Illinois senator interpreted the remark as a slam against him but the White House denied that Bush's words were in any way directed at Obama, who has said as president he would be willing to personally meet with Iran's leaders and those of other regimes the United States has deemed rogue.

In a speech to Israel's Knesset, Bush said: "Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. "We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is—the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

Facts Against Man-Made Warming Surface More

aux.link: Climate facts to warm to The Australian

An ABC Radio debate host in this article thinks these facts coming to light more, about temperatures cooling in the last decade (going plateau and negative since 1998) despite rising natural and man-made CO2 emissions, is "extraordinary". Indeed...

"If Marohasy is anywhere near right about the impending collapse of the global warming paradigm, life will suddenly become a whole lot more interesting. A great many founts of authority, from the Royal Society to the UN, most heads of government along with countless captains of industry, learned professors, commentators and journalists will be profoundly embarrassed. Let us hope it is a prolonged and chastening experience.

With catastrophe off the agenda, for most people the fog of millennial gloom will lift, at least until attention turns to the prospect of the next ice age. Among the better educated, the sceptical cast of mind that is the basis of empiricism will once again be back in fashion. The delusion that by recycling and catching public transport we can help save the planet will quickly come to be seen for the childish nonsense it was all along.

The poorest Indians and Chinese will be left in peace to work their way towards prosperity, without being badgered about the size of their carbon footprint, a concept that for most of us will soon be one with Nineveh and Tyre, clean forgotten in six months."

More more more more more more more.

"WASHINGTON -- A pair of high-profile former Silicon Valley executives have signed on to help John McCain's presidential campaign, offering a boost to the presumptive Republican nominee's economic credentials and fund-raising abilities.

Meg Whitman, the retirement-bound chief executive of eBay Inc., joined the McCain team Friday as a national co-chairwoman. She made the move after more than a year as an adviser to Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts who ran a tough campaign against Sen. McCain. Ms. Whitman joins Carly Fiorina, the former head of Hewlett-Packard Co., who was named the Republican National Committee's "Victory" chair earlier this month.

He already has the help of longtime supporter John Chambers, CEO of Cisco Systems Inc., as both a fund-raiser and an adviser."

At the time of this post, I haven't watched the video of this epic announcement, but the transcript is spot-on. Outstanding speech, and the reason for conceeding is a monumental one, and right. I hope that in particular gets some notice. Here's hoping for 2012?

Seven Reasons To Support The GOP Nominee

aux.link: Seven Reasons To Support The GOP's Nominee - Townhall.com::Blog

"There are seven reasons for anyone to support the eventual nominee no matter who it is: The war and six Supreme Court justices over the age of 68."

"The GOP as well is the party committed to victory in Iraq and the wider war. A four year time-out would be a disaster, a period of time in which al Qaeda and its jihadist off-shoots would regroup in some places and continue to spread in others. Iran, even if punished in the months before November, would certainly continue and accelerate its plans under the soft pleadings of a President Obama or Clinton 2.0."

"But it is very possible to play full contact politics without the threat of going home if your team loses. The stakes in the fall are far too high for that."
Indeed- take heed.

Uncertain About Prez Candidates Just Like You

edit: I had some worthless, long, drawn-out schpiel written here for the last few days about the current standing of the situation, but it's truly pointless until the polling statistics of a nominee pass the point of no return next month or shortly thereafter. Cindy McCain might make for the hottest First Lady ever, but I'm still bitter about the lack of belly fire from Thompson. At this point, I'm questioning whether I'm even going to bother voting. But I know I will in the end. ****.

Shakeup In The GOP Race

I'm afraid after this weekend, it's all over for Fred Thompson (and poor Duncan Hunter hasn't a clue about marketing and is completely off the radar). Fred was the candidate of choice for the conservative base of America, but they never rallied around him completely (re: $) because there was never that 'fire in the belly'. Fred wanted to be president, just not as badly as we wanted him to be.

While unfortunate, I'm now all but sold on McCain after his surprising speech this evening after winning South Carolina. He understands the threat of radical Islamic facists and terrorism probably moreso than Guiliani does, so I'll give him a pass on his momentary lapse of reason regarding global warming. His border security plan is acceptable, though it would be nice if he came out and said he wished he could make some changes in retrospect to voting with Sen. Kennedy on the subject recently. But he still has some issues to prove to the GOP base that he's willing to work alongside, but not get too buddy-buddy with, some questionable Democrats.

Another case in point... better first lady: Cindy McCain or Bill Clinton?

Texas' Castle Law Gives Residents More Power

aux.link: 'Castle law' arms Texas homeowners with right to shoot

OR, 'Why I Love Texas'.

RIGHTS UNDER NEW LAW - Major provisions of Texas' Castle Law:
• Presumes you are reasonable in using force if someone – illegally and with force – enters or is attempting to enter your occupied home, car or workplace. You are not given this presumption if you provoked the person or are engaged in a crime.
• Removes your obligation to retreat if possible before using deadly force if you are anywhere you have a right to be. The previous law obliged you to retreat if a "reasonable person" would have, except in a situation where someone unlawfully entered your home.
• Gives you added protection from lawsuits by injured attackers or their families. Previous law granted this protection if someone illegally entered your home, but not in other situations.

Hillary And Tyra Schmooze About Lewinsky Tryst

aux.link: Hillary Clinton reveals personal anguish over Lewinsky saga
"I really had to dig down deep and think hard about what was right for me, what
was right for my family," Clinton said on the Tyra Banks talk show on Fox
television.
Or in other words, "it's not personal, it's just business" obviously. She did it for the political advantage, which is amazing in of itself since Slick Willy still has any reputation after that- confusing. Americans need to sit down and think if they really want the Clintons back in The White House again.

A Note To Steve Jobs / Apple's Political Agenda

aux.link: YouTube - Randy Newman - Macworld Expo 2008, Apple Keynote, Part 1/3

Babbling nonsense, especially hate against America, with no tune from a crotchety, old, senile man, does not make the embarassment of his existance on stage at an electronics tradeshow 'entertainment'. WTF is Apple thinking these days? Oh, but he was conveniently playing a piano while comparing President Bush to Hitler and Stalin, so it's ok. Everyone clap along.

Is he really that extraordinary, Steve? That's frighteningly telling for an otherwise visionary man like yourself. Why couldn't you have snagged U2 to close out your keynote speech instead? You know, someone your global audience generally likes and respects? Your company may make the best consumer IT products on the market of which I am becoming more of a fan, but that doesn't keep you from being a total douchebag. I feel equal parts cutting-edge and dirty every time I pick up my iPhone now. I knew Apple was fairly 'left', but this goes beyond the pale.

Antics like this and your incessant showcasing of The New York Times in every one of your product advertisements demonstrating any Internet capabilities, zooming in on questionable articles of obvious intent, keeps me from leaving my HP Xeon workstation behind for a new Mac Pro. Wake up and realize that your target market isn't full of Paulitards and environmentaljihadists any longer. Spin your energy attempting to mislead others about global affairs into giving us a 3G iPhone already. Marketing is obviously your place in society, not politics. A global showcase of great products to attract more market share - not less - is the worst place possible to advertise your ideologies. Give it up- quick.

Wow, Randy Newman isn't black. I had no idea.

A D.C. Prius Stunt And My Thoughts On Hybrids

Not only was this little episode annoying, it was also offensive in more ways than one.
WASHINGTON — When Congress sent an energy bill to President Bush for his signature, it arrived in a Japanese-built Toyota Prius hybrid — a move that rubbed two Michigan Republicans the wrong way. "It is a huge slap in the face, calculated I believe, just to demonstrate their complete disregard for the domestic auto industry," said Rep. Candice Miller, R-Mich.

To Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., it was a "slap in the face of every American auto worker."

They said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., could have provided the same symbolism by sending the bill Wednesday in a U.S.-built hybrid made by Ford Motor Co. or General Motors Corp.

Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Pelosi, said the Republicans were "merely attempting to distract from the success of the Democratic energy security legislation" and noted that 95 House Republicans supported the bill. He said the bill would encourage the development of hybrids and alternative vehicles. Hammill said the Prius was owned by an employee with the Office of the Clerk, which sends bills to the White House.

The bill requires that automakers increase fuel efficiency by 40 percent to an industry average of 35 miles per gallon by 2020.

The Prius, the most popular gas-electric hybrid in the United States, gets a combined 46 mpg in city and highway driving. The Prius and the 2008 Honda Civic hybrid, which gets a combined 42 mpg, are the only two hybrids sold in the United States today that would meet the new mileage requirements set for 2020.
But, freedom-sucking policy delivery via a Ford Escape Hybrid or otherwise, the point is that hybrid vehicles from any manufacturer are still the most overhyped and worthless products marketed towards leftists since the Pet Rock. Especially in this case, the bill delivery using such a set of wheels only showcases the incompetence of anybody involved in the event's shipment and receiving. And also of its far more ridiculous cargo that will mandate ridiculous fuel efficiency standards- a showcase of incompetent and wasteful legislation in of itself. Folks... crap like this is why Congressional approval ratings are at record lows.

Furthermore, since I can't stand hybrids and enjoy watching
this video over and over (ok, I'll be a little more serious- this one), let me also note that environmentaljihadists only drive hybrids for the smug factor and because they have to have a car. They would be astounded to know how much more capable, environmental friendly and stronger clean-burning diesel vehicles are overall in comparison. Or that from dust-to-dust, a Jeep Wrangler is more environmentally friendly and creates less of a 'carbon footprint', if there's any reason to tally such a thing.

And while we're on the subject, my non-diesel 2003 Volkswagen Passat gets 34mpg on the highway, and it's a regular gasoline engine with a zippy turbocharger, good for 210hp/240 ft. lbs. of power (after I modified the engine management software for greater efficiency, still 31mpg stock). A pricier and cheaper-feeling 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid gets only 2mpg better at a cost of several thousand more. Two words, hybrid-loving manufacturers: nice try. But, not really. Scrap your plans and go diesel already. Volkswagen has the best diesel's in the industry, but its recent 'green' campaign has this German-loving motorist eyeing an Audi for his next chariot. Naturally a big one with a V8 or better... while I still can.

Senate Report Debunks Warming "Consensus"

The deniers are gaining momentum in areas that count, slowly but surely. Next year should see the minority belief turn into the majority.

"Over 400 prominent scientists from more than two dozen countries recently voiced significant objections to major aspects of the so-called "consensus" on man-made global warming. These scientists, many of whom are current and former participants in the UN IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), criticized the climate claims made by the UN IPCC and former Vice President Al Gore. The new report issued by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s office of the GOP Ranking Member details the views of the scientists, the overwhelming majority of whom spoke out in 2007.

Even some in the establishment media now appear to be taking notice of the growing number of skeptical scientists. In October, the Washington Post Staff Writer Juliet Eilperin conceded the obvious, writing that climate skeptics "appear to be expanding rather than shrinking." Many scientists from around the world have dubbed 2007 as the year man-made global warming fears “bite the dust.” In addition, many scientists who are also progressive environmentalists believe climate fear promotion has "co-opted" the green movement."

Bushes Plan Post White House Years In Dallas

Yes, I live in Dallas. And coincidentally, I did some growing up in Midland too where Dubya did the same. So I'm pretty stoked at the idea of the world's most powerful dude retiring in the same spot I live now as well. The upscale communities of Highland Park and Park Cities north of downtown are abuzz with rumors of where the couple will spend the next stage of their lives starting in 2009- these developments will be interesting to watch over the next several months.

Maybe I can get in on this 'Freedom Institute' in some role that he wants to start...

Yoko Ono Sounds Off With Some Logic?

She did, for once.

YOKO ONO will never use an environmentally friendly car - because they are not as comfortable as her Bentley. The wife of late Beatle John Lennon has snubbed the Hybrid car - which is popular with Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz and Leonardo Di Caprio for its low pollution levels - in favour of travelling in luxury. She says, "Can someone make Hybrid cars as comfortable as a Bentley, please?"

Americans 'Willing To Sacrifice' SUVs?

Crap article from some local outlet likely run by community college dropouts, but point nonetheless.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards told a labor group he would ask Americans to make a big sacrifice: their sport utility vehicles.

The former North Carolina senator told a forum by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, yesterday he thinks Americans are willing to sacrifice.

Edwards says Americans should be asked to drive more fuel efficient vehicles. He says he would ask them to give up SUVs.

Well... okay. Is there a collection center already setup where we can drop these off, John? That's where you're on your way to in yours below, right?

China And Russia Are Blindsided

Hold up. Is it just me or isn't it clearly obvious that it's Iran whom nations should really warn could set off an arms race? Of course it is. After all, if it wasn't for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad waving his proverbial cock around with the media internationally, we wouldn't have Israel coming out and revealing that they already have nukes, and have the Saudis (and probably the Syrians) scrambling to develop their own weapons systems. Saddam Hussain was supposedly already in the throws of such a program by 2003.

China warns US may set off arms race

These developments from Hu and Putin in recent days have got to be one of the most profound stories of the year. Keep in mind that we openly invited Russia last month to assist in being a development and management partner of the strategic missile defense, intended specifically to counter ICBMs from Iran. To spin Putin's words back at him, this would indeed be funny if it weren't so sad.

The sad part, of course, is not due to poor communications and/or misunderstanding, but what appears to indeed be the beginnings of alliance-forming across the East. The main concerns are China, Russia, North Korea and Iran, all of whom cannot even condemn eachother with UN sanctions. If this 'buddying-up' wasn't unnerving enough, also keep in mind that Iran can easily open up two fronts here as a result. One with Russia and the gang for the Eastern alliance, and another for that Islamic jihadist 'take-over-the-Middle-East' and 'wipe-Israel-off-the-map' thing. Their forthcoming nuclear capabilities will all-too conveniently assist both theaters of a possible conflict. Wouldn't you lie about your intentions too?

Great. Now who is playing defense for the West? A unified Europe that would strongly pull together as a result- happily including France and Germany now. Australia, Japan and South Korea would strongly join in, and while we're at it, maybe Taiwan will split during the ruckus. The United States would lead the Western alliance, while Russia will likely lead the Eastern. Any speculation as what could unfold after sides are chosen is haunting, but this very real scenario that could likely build up to that point between now and the end of this decade is what it is.

Welcome to The New Cold War.

The Great Global Warming Swindle

Best. Documentary. Ever... from the BBC? It's true.

“The only way to remain anti-establishment was to adopt ever more extreme positions. The other reason that environmental extremism emerged was because world communism failed, the wall came down, and a lot of peaceniks and political activists moved into the environmental movement bringing their neo-Marxism with them and learned to use ‘green’ language in a very cleaver way to cloak agendas that have actually more to do with anti-capitalism and anti-globalization than anything they do with ecology or science.” – Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace, ret.

Dems Shift Intel Budget To Warming

Sneaky tricks for false pretenses. The global warming hysteria is not only working its way into legislature as 'research', but at the cost of security spending now as well. Or at least, that's how Democrats would prefer it...

More from the Washington Times:

Democrats, who outnumber Republicans on the committee, blocked the minority from stripping the warming language from the bill.

Intelligence panel Chairman Silvestre Reyes, Texas Democrat, said the climate-change study is one of several shifts his party has made to intelligence policy. "We're concerned that global warming might impact our ability to maintain national security," he told The Times, describing the idea as "cutting edge."

Several Republicans trotted out the statistic that the government already spends $6.5 billion annually on global-warming related issues through several agencies, including NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. But Mr. Reyes said the provision "makes
sense" because of the growing international concern over climate change. "We think it's time," he said.

Inside The Beltway - Part II

I can't decide whether I love or hate D.C. I know I love it, but my obvious stubbornness got the best of me in the last few days. I didn't plan well for a complex city, have a proper map, nor did I ask for directions anywhere. Armed with Google Maps bookmarked on a laptop with a battery at 43% and a Cingular 3G aircard, I did my best to make it around town on my own, thankyouverymuch. Whoops.

I spent most of my last 1.5 days lost or stuck in obscene traffic. Usually in undesireable areas of town - out of my own incompetence - where it was odd that my black rental Charger wasn't wearing 24" rims. All of this was the greatest disappointment as navigational abilities are one of my strongest traits, though not in this confusing blob of pavement without active GPS for a first-timer. But I digress.

I gave up on the Holocaust Museum (already having a great respect for what happened, I wasn't in the mood to become depressed for the rest of my stay) and the Smithsonian's Air & Space Museum aircraft collection (upon combing Reagan Int'l for the facility, I discovered it's actually out at Dulles; f$#% it), and instead wound up at the
International Spy Museum near The White House after a couple great lagers and a heaping of Shepherd's Pie at The Dubliner north of The Capitol. It was something fun and of greater interest that I could 'get into' before having to race back to BMI for a departure late afternoon, where two-lane traffic sucks on the 295, even when intimidating Hondas in the left lane with high beams like a cop (55mph posted speed limit!?), only to get pulled over by a real one later for going a perfectly reasonable 81mph. Easy as it would be to ignore and accept a long-distance warrant for my arrest, I'll pay up, though I digress further. While the Museum had more of a focus on past intel tools and historical events relating to spying, and arguably geared at folks younger than I, it was still informative and inspiring. I came away eyeing everyone on the street with more suspicion than I used to. Just what I needed...

Glad I got to visit this area. Maybe I'll be back again with better planning soon, but I was happier to get out of the area and back home far away from that madness this evening. It's amazing how quickly jets can whisk you far away from undesireable locales- modern transportation is cool.

Inside The Beltway - Part I

I decided to take a couple days off on either side of this weekend to see Washington D.C. for myself. I flew into Baltimore a couple days ago, and from the rash of bumperstickers alone, could tell it held near-San Franciscan levels of communism and liberalism within two blocks of Inner Harbor. By that same way of judgement, D.C. doesn't seem as backwards yet.

I'm wheeling a black Dodge Charger around the downtown streets of our nation's Capitol menacing hybrid drivers for the most part this morning. However, trying to pack as many sights into 2.5 days or less, I'm making good time. Arlington Cemetary is... just damn incredible. The Pentagon was actually smaller than I was expecting, but impressive nonetheless- they are working on a huge 9/11 memorial there. I walked around the Capitol building looking to smack Harry Reid, but to no avail- it's the weekend. But I'll be back Monday. I also found out that FOX News' Washington bureau is in an unmarked building with zero access- no signature from Brit Hume this time.

So now I'm around the corner at the Capitol Brewery downing a few pints over lunch trying to figure out what to do next. The Holocaust and Air & Space Museums are on the docket at some point in the next couple days, and the typical stops off at the Lincoln Memorial, et al. Although, I get more of a kick out of driving around getting a feel for the city at the street level and taking hundreds of digital photographs than looking at exhibits of French art. I'm soaking it up best I can- it would be easy to spend a week here. Over and out.

McKinney Introduces Bill to Impeach Bush
Dec 08 9:41 PM
US/Eastern
By BEN EVANS Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - In what was likely her final legislative act in Congress, outgoing Georgia Rep. Cynthia McKinney introduced a bill Friday to impeach
President Bush.

The legislation has no chance of passing and serves as a symbolic parting shot not only at
Bush but also at Democratic leaders. Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has made clear that she will not entertain proposals to sanction Bush and has warned the liberal wing of her party against making political hay of impeachment.

McKinney, a Democrat who drew national headlines in March when she struck a Capitol police officer, has long insisted that Bush was never legitimately elected. In introducing her legislation in the final hours of the current Congress, she said Bush had violated his
oath of office to defend the Constitution and the nation's laws.

In the bill, she accused Bush of misleading Congress on the war in Iraq and violating privacy laws with his domestic spying program.

McKinney has made no secret of her frustration with Democratic leaders since voters ousted her from office in the Democratic primary this summer. In a speech Monday at
George Washington University, she accused party leaders of kowtowing to Republicans on the war in Iraq and on military mistreatment of prisoners. McKinney, who has not discussed her future plans, has increasingly embraced her image as a controversial figure.

She has hosted numerous panels on Sept. 11 conspiracy theories and suggested that Bush had prior knowledge of the terrorist attacks but kept quiet about it to allow friends to profit from the aftermath. She introduced legislation to establish a permanent collection of rapper Tupac Shakur's recordings at the
National Archives and calling for a federal investigation into his killing.

But it was her scuffle with a Capitol police officer that drew the most attention. McKinney struck the officer when he tried to stop her from entering a congressional office building. The officer did not recognize McKinney, who was not wearing her member lapel pin.

A grand jury in Washington declined to indict McKinney over the clash, but she eventually apologized before the House.
